York RLFC Foundation are delighted to announce that more than 1,000 children were part of our biggest Summer Holiday programme ever!
The Foundation delivered 18 multi-sport day camps and 28 inflatable sessions from late July to early September across 17 different locations in York and Selby, including the first-class York St John University Sports Park, the training base of York Knights and York Valkyrie.
As well as delivering a range of different sporting activities to primary school-aged children, the Foundation also provided 850 meals free of charge while distributing water, snacks and fruit throughout the sessions.
The aim of these sessions was not only to inspire the next generation of Knights and Valkyrie stars, but also to play a vital role in helping make the school holidays enjoyable for everyone involved and to highlight the opportunities that exist within our local area.
The inflatable sessions visited green spaces across York, as part of our community outreach work programme, allowing more children to be entertained, make friends, and stay fit, fed and active during the summer.
York RLFC Foundation Delivery Manager Adam Prentis said: "We are proud to deliver a Summer Holiday programme of this scale, which has had a significant impact on the local community, bringing children together and helping to provide food for some families that are in hardship.
"Our day camps consisted of multi-sport activities and allowed children to experience a wide range of different activities as well as continuing to build the profile of the Foundation, York RLFC and rugby league, which is increasing year-on-year.
"We have had a particularly positive response from children already playing community rugby league as well as children asking for details on how they can get involved in the sport on a regular basis.
"My thanks go to all of the funders for making this Summer Holiday programme possible and to each and every family for joining us throughout the summer."
York RLFC Foundation would like to thank our principal partners Burflex for their loyal and continued support as well local suppliers Simon Baynes Wholesale for providing the fruit for our sessions!
We would like to thank City of York Council, North Yorkshire Together and all those involved in local ward funding for making our Summer Holiday programme possible.
Our thanks also go to the Holiday Activities with Food (HAF) programme, whose scheme allows any child eligible for free school meals to book onto one of our sessions free of charge. York RLFC Foundation will be running School Holiday programmes during the Autumn School Holidays. Watch this space for more information!
