Knights Foundation team up with MENCAP for Digital Inclusion!

The York City Knights Foundation have teamed up with MENCAP to help individuals with learning difficulties access the internet and more! We are aiming to find out more about our learners needs how we can support our participants' needs by offering a range of mini-workshops.

The partnership has been made possible with the help of MENCAP who have provided a number of tablets to distribute in order to increase connectivity amongst people who are vulnerable due to digital and social exclusion. We are aware that in the current climate of COVID-19, virtual connectivity is more important than ever, and we hope to utilise this project to ensure that people with learning disabilities are able to keep in contact with friends and have access to the internet.  A lack of digital skills and access can have a huge negative impact on a person’s life, leading to poorer health outcomes and a lower life expectancy, increased loneliness and social isolation, less access to jobs and education.

The programme has already helped distribute several devices to our Disability Rugby League group. The tablets have been modified with settings changed to help learners use the software.

Adam Prentis. York City Knights Foundation's Delivery Manager, said: ‘We recognise the benefits of being digitally connected and are looking to continue this programme over our offseason as a way of helping participants stay not in touch with each other but increase their confidence, knowledge and employability with access to a wide range of courses.”

To mark #GetOnlineWeek (18 - 24 October) there is a range of online and face-to-face events taking place to help you get online and get connected. To learn about how to make the most of the internet by finding an event near you at the website https://uk.getonlineweek.com/.
