York Valkyrie will begin the defence of their Women's Nines crown when they compete in the Women's Nines Festival at Warrington's Victoria Park on Sunday.
Tara Jane Stanley scored the only points of last year's final at the AJ Bell Stadium in Salford as York beat Leeds Rhinos 7-0 to win the inaugural competition.
The Valkyrie face Barrow Raiders (10.30am), Hull FC (11.20pm) and Workington Town (12.10pm) in Group Five on Sunday, with the top side from each Group plus one wildcard progressing to Finals Day at the AJ Bell Stadium on Saturday 24th June.
Entry to the Women's Nines Festival is FREE, with play running from 10.30am to 4pm and educational workshops focusing on the women's game taking place alongside the action on the field.
The rules for the Women's Nines Festival are as follows:
Only nine players are allowed on the field at one time, with six unlimited interchanges permitted
Nines matches will be played over two nine-minute halves, with no half-time break
Four points are scored for a try and five points are scored for a try in the 'Bonus Zone'
Two points are scored for conversions and penalty goals, although these must be taken as drop-kicks rather than from the kicking tee
Kick-offs and restarts are taken as drop-kicks and must travels 10 metres. After a try is scored, the restart must be taken by the scoring team.
Sin-bins last for three minutes
Scrums consist of five players, with only a maximum of four players allowed in the backs positions
