York Knights v Toulouse Olympique: Match Preview

  • Apr 21
  • 2 min read

York Knights will aim for their third Betfred Super League win of the season this week, when they host Toulouse Olympique at the LNER Community Stadium on Thursday 23rd April (8pm)!

It’s the first time the teams have met since the Betfred Championship Grand Final in October, when the French club beat the Knights on their home ground, 10-8.

That was one of three times they met last season, with York picking up a crucial 16-8 win in France, as they went on to claim the league leaders shield. Earlier in the season, Toulouse were 7-6 winners in York.

This year, like the Knights, Toulouse made a good start to being back in the top flight, winning their opening two matches. They won at Wakefield, 16-8, on the opening weekend of the season before beating Castleford 24-12.

Since then, they’ve lost their last six games, with the 46-0 defeat at home to Hull KR being their biggest loss so far.

The Knights have lost their last five league games, so it all adds up to this fixture being a big one for both teams, who currently sit in the bottom two of the table, level on points and only separated by a narrow points difference.

Following their promotion, Toulouse have added more Super League experience with the likes of half-back, Cesare Rouge from Catalans Dragons and Tyler Dupree from Wigan Warriors. They’ve also recently brought Tiaki Chan to the club on loan from Wigan until the end of the season.

While the Knights have won at Toulouse in the last two seasons in the Championship, it was 2013 the last time that they won at home.

That day, it was a 30-28 win in the fourth round of the Challenge Cup, with Kriss Brining, Tom Carr, Nat Brown and Jack Lee scoring the tries for the Knights.

A win this weekend will mean they’ll climb out of the bottom two of the Super League table.
