York Valkyrie will aim for back to back wins in the Beftred Womenâs Super League when they host St.Helens at the LNER Community Stadium on Sunday (12pm)!
The game is being played as part of a double header with York Knights v Sheffield Eagles in the Betfred Championship (3pm).
Lindsay Anfieldâs side got off the mark last week with a 24-16 win at home to Leeds Rhinos, following on from their opening day defeat at Wigan Warriors.
This game is a repeat of last monthâs Betfred Challenge Cup semi-final, which St.Helens won 10-6 to go through to their fifth consecutive final.
Itâs also a repeat of last yearâs Super League Grand Final, where the Valkyrie won 18-8 to become the first team to win back to back titles.
It promises to be another tight encounter, with both York and St.Helens expected to be challenging for the top honour again this year.
Saints started their league campaign with a 20-20 draw at home to Leeds Rhinos, a game which they came from behind in to claim a point. They followed it up with a 36-0 win last week at Huddersfield Giants to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.
Dec Hardman and Craig Richards have an experienced squad available to them again this season, with centre, Amy Hardcastle and forward, Shona Hoyle returning to the club after spells at Leeds.
Theyâve also signed half back, Caitlin Casey from Leeds, and sheâs also been used at hooker and loose forward whilst in the Red Vee.
Like last year, the Valkyrie will have Eboni Partington in their squad, coming up against her former team mates.
The corresponding fixture last year saw the Valkyrie run out 20-16 winners, as Tamzin Renouf, Carrie Roberts (2) and Emma Kershaw all scored, with Tara-Jane Stanley kicking two goals. Rachael Woosey, Leah Burke and Katie Mottershead replied for Saints, while Amy Taylor had two successful conversions.
Saints got their revenge in the reverse game, running out 10-6 winners at home.
