Butterworth signed for the Knights ahead of the 2022 campaign from Sheffield Eagles, but was ruled out for the year due to a shoulder injury picked up in pre-season

The winger debuted for Sheffield in the Eagles’ 34-28 defeat to Swinton Lions, scoring a long-range try on his first appearance.

Butterworth is a former Great Britain bobsleigh athlete and has past experience in rugby union with Llanelli Scarlets and Cardiff Met University.
