Amongst the new faces at York Knights this season has been French international, Justin Sangare.
A big, imposing prop, Sangare came through the system at Toulouse Olympique, where he was part of the team that earned promotion to Betfred Super League in 2022.
He's played in the top flight ever since, spending two years with Leeds Rhinos before moving to Salford in 2025.
Now, he says he's delighted to be part of the group at York.
"It’s very exciting," he says. "I’m very keen to be part of York’s story. I’m ready for the big battle!
"I had a hard season last year at Salford. But I learned what I need to improve in my rugby and what I need to focus on.
"When I had the opportunity to sign for York I was very happy. It was a fresh opportunity for me and my family and I feel like York are giving me another chance."
Like many of his team mates, he believes York can continue to surprise a few teams this year. building on some hard work in the off-season.
"We had some very good sessions. There are a few boys with experience, and when we mix that together, it makes the team better. It’s been great. We just need to be patient and build.
"Like I say every year, we need to build a foundation. Nobody knew York in Super League.
"As a team, we just build step by step every game. Anything can happen. We have the ability to never give up."
