After the Knights Ladies inflicted a convincing 0-78 defeat on Dewsbury Moor in their first Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup Group Three match, Director of Rugby Lindsay Anfield shared her delight in the team’s performance while paying testament to the efforts of the opponents on Sunday afternoon.
“Credit to Dewsbury Moor, they started well and came out all guns blazing and really challenged us early on.
“After that, though, our pack grew stronger and was really dominant in the middle.”
Prop Daisy Sanderson and hat-trick scorer Rhiannion Marshall drew praise from Anfield, along with two other members of the pack, a duo of youngsters and the talent of a debutant England international full-back who made a positive impact on proceedings.
“Yeah, those two were really good for us, as were Jasmine Bell and Olivia Wood. They helped set the platform for the win, along with the rest of our pack, and it was also great to see some of the younger players like Liv Whitehead and Rhianna Aldridge, both seventeen-years-old, going well in our first game.
“Tara (Stanley) was excellent, as well. She really showed the skill and athleticism she possesses by scoring five tries during her time on the pitch today.”
Finally, Anfield gave a nod to the crowd and support on show at the Dewsbury Moor Sports Park. “It was great to see a really strong number there on the day with support travelling over from York as well.”
“We’re looking forward to playing for them next weekend back at the LNER Community Stadium!”
