York Valkyrie travel to the Northern Competitions Stadium to take on Barrow Raiders on Sunday (2pm) in their penultimate game of the Womenâs Betfred Super League!
Despite last weekâs defeat at St.Helens, the Valkyrie are still third in the table, and a win this weekend will guarantee they will finish no lower heading into the end of season play offs.
The 18-8 defeat was just their third of the season, and ended an eight match winning run which stretched back to June.
Itâs been a tough year for Barrow, who came into the top flight for the first time last season. After losing some players due to retirement and relocation away from Cumbria, theyâve won three games this year and are sixth in the table, a point above Leigh Leopards and three points behind fifth place Huddersfield Giants.
Their wins have come against Leigh (16-10), Warrington (52-10 and 14-6). However theyâve suffered some heavy defeats by the top four teams, and have conceded 90 points in each of their last two games against St.Helens and then Wigan.
When Barrow travelled to York in July, the Valkyrie were 58-0 winners, with Lindsay Anfieldâs team running in 12 tries, Savannah Andrade and Emma Kershaw scored two each, while Peace Lekuru got a hat-trick.
The Valkyrie are still expected to be able to name a settled side for the match, and itâs this consistency with selection thatâs helped them get on a good run of form coming towards the end of the season.
