Bass returns to the Knights in swap loan deal as Glover departs

York Knights are delighted to announce the return of outside back Jason Bass on loan until the end of the season from Sheffield Eagles, thanks to the support of Squadbuilder.

As part of a loan swap deal, centre James Glover will return to his former club Sheffield until the end of 2023.

Bass, who is proudly sponsored by City Cruises, enjoyed a hugely successful first spell at York, including scoring eight tries in 27 appearances as the Knights finished third in the Betfred Championship in 2019.

The versatile outside back, who can feature at centre, on the wing or at full-back, was also a try-scorer at Wembley Stadium in 2021 in the narrow 41-34 defeat to Featherstone Rovers in the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup Final.

Knights Head Coach Henderson, who is proudly sponsored by Haxby Sports Bar, expressed his delight at securing Bass' return.

Henderson said: "I'm really pleased to bring Jason to a Club, having heard lots of good things about him as a person.

"He fit the bill in terms of the characters that we're looking for at this Club. He's had past experience at this Club and he already knows some of the players, so we're bringing in somebody that knows what they're walking into, which will make it a smooth transition for him.

"I'm really looking forward to working alongside him and seeing what he can deliver for us as well as improving his game."

With the capability to play across multiple positions, Bass will bring some versatility to the Knights squad.

"Jason is a great person and a real effort-based player, which is something that is high on our list when we are recruiting players plus he can cover a number of positions in the back line," Henderson added.

"At this stage of the year, in terms of what we need, it's great that he can play at centre, on the wing and even at full-back.

"The fact that Jason is versatile, is an effort-based player, is a good person, has spent time at the Club before and has a good connection with some of the players and fans makes it a really good fit for us at this moment in time."

On Glover, Henderson said: "I'd like to thank James for the time that he has committed to the Club and for his contributions to York and wish him all the best with Sheffield for the remainder of this season."

Bass himself said on the move: "I'm really excited to be back at York. I had a few really enjoyable years at the Knights and to be able to play at the LNER Community Stadium again is fantastic, it's such an amazing place to play. I'm really looking to getting back out on the field for the Club.

"I've got some amazing memories from my first spell from making my debut at Bootham Crescent against Toronto Wolfpack through to scoring at Wembley, which an unbelievable experience and hopefully one we can repeat again this year.

"There's a great set of fans here at York and they really make themselves heard at home and away. I'm looking forward to seeing some familiar faces again and hopefully we can have a successful end to the season."

Bass could make his second York debut when the Knights face Keighley Cougars at Cougar Park in the Betfred Championship on Sunday (3pm).
