Castleford Tigers v York Knights: Match Preview

York Knights make the short trip to the One Bore Stadium to face Castleford Tigers on Friday night in the Betfred Super League (8pm)!
It’s the second time in just over a month that the two teams have met, following on from the Tigers 24-18 win at the LNER Community Stadium last month.
Since then, Castleford have gone on to win twice more in their last four games, beating St.Helens (30-10) and last weekend, Toulouse Olympique (36-18). It leaves them on 12 points in the table, with six wins.
In contrast, the Knights are still looking for their fourth win of the year and sit one place off the bottom of the table. They go into this one on the back of the 72-20 defeat last weekend at home to Wigan, with all York’s points coming in the last ten minutes of the game.
The last time York played at Wheldon Road was back in 2005 when they met Castleford in the first round of the Northern Rail Cup. Paul Thorman kicked the Knights’ only points in a 52-2 defeat. The York side went on to win promotion that year, and included the likes of Peter Fox and Lee Jackson in their line up. Against York that afternoon was future York player, Waine Pryce and former coach, Andrew Henderson.
This time around, Ryan Carr’s team is showing signs of improvement after a slow start to the season. Phoenix Laulu-Togaga’e has been a good signing at full back, causing problems with his pace, while Jack Brown has come in from Hull KR to add strength in the pack.
Since York last played Castleford, captain, Liam Harris has returned to the side after injury, although Jesse Dee will still be missing, as he goes through HIA protocols.
