Catalans Dragons v York Knights: Match Preview

York Knights travel to France on Saturday 5th September to face Catalans Dragons in their penultimate game of the season in Betfred Super League (6pm BST, 7pm CET!)

With just two rounds remaining, the Knights are one of three teams level on 14 points, two points above bottom of the table Bradford Bulls, who York meet next week in the final match of the season.

Catalans Dragons are in eighth place, on 20 points after what’s been an inconsistent year.

The two teams met for the first time in Super League back in May at the LNER Community Stadium, when the Dragons won 36-22, in what was the first game in charge for coach, John Cartwright. He took over from Joel Tomkins, and has won four of the following thirteen games.

One of those was last week, with a 34-6 win at Castleford Tigers, while their last home win was in June, 34-24 against Bradford Bulls.

With neither a chance of making the play offs, or any risk of finishing bottom of the table, Catalans will just be looking to end their home games on a positive note ahead of their trip to Wigan next week.

Mark Applegarth’s side are also hoping to end their first year in Super League strongly, having won seven games on debut in the top flight.

After winning three consecutive matches, then picking up a win against St.Helens, York have lost their last four matches, all against teams who are likely to be in the play offs at the end of the year.

Following last week’s 28-12 defeat at Wakefield, coach, Mark Applegarth confirmed hooker, Tom Inman has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury. However, winger, David Nofoaluma is expected to be available again after missing last week’s match.
