The Knights’ fighting spirit from Sunday’s 4-10 victory at Batley Bulldogs was typified by a hardened eighty minute performance from captain Chris Clarkson.
Discussing what he learned about the team he leads, Clarkson pointed to the bond and togetherness the result highlighted.
“Anytime you go there it’s tough and it’s a difficult pitch, even when it’s bone dry. The conditions were horrible and credit to both teams, playing for eighty minutes in that was really hard for each player.
“The lads dug in, though, and we showed how tough and together we are as a group to get that win.”
He also pointed to the impact the travelling Knights faithful had at the Fox’s Biscuits Stadium: “They were great. They were in each stand and it told – they surrounded us with some good energy and loud noise. It really got us through a tough eighty minutes.”
After a 30-2 victory over Dewsbury seven days prior to Sunday’s victory in West Yorkshire, the Knights now have back-to-back Betfred Championship wins after three matches but former Super League winner Clarkson emphasised that the team mustn’t get ahead of themselves.
“Back to back wins does give us a lot of confidence but we can’t get complacent. We’ve got to keep improving and getting better each week. It’d be easy to think we are where we want to be after two good games but we need to keep taking those steps forward and we have another tough game against Leigh this weekend.
“They’re going to be competing where we want to be competing this season so it’s important we prepare well for that and put in a good performance against them.”
