Featherstone Rovers v York Valkyrie : Match Preview

York Valkyrie make the journey to Post Office Road on Saturday to take on Featherstone Rovers in the Betfred Women’s Super League (2pm)!

The game is part of a double header, with the Valkyrie Under 19s facing their counterparts from Featherstone at 11.30am.

It’s the first time for two seasons that the Valkyrie have played Featherstone in the league, after they were relegated at the end of 2024. However, they bounced straight back to the top flight for this year.

They’ve won one of their opening five games, beating Barrow Raiders, 16-10, three weeks ago. That was a big victory for Rovers, who went through their last spell in Super League two years ago without winning a game.

York have beaten Huddersfield Giants and Leigh Leopards so far this season, and they sit in fourth place in the table, having lost to St.Helens, Leeds Rhinos and last weekend, Wigan Warriors (32-12).

York beat Featherstone in the Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup group stage, 54-6 last year, but when they last met in the league, it was a 32-6 win for the Valkyrie at the Millennium Stadium. Megan Pakulis, Rhiannion Marshall, Izzy Brennan, Lauren Exley and Tamzin Renouf were the try scorers for York, while Marshall and Brennan kicked the goals.

Featherstone have kept the core of their squad together over the last few seasons, with the likes of Dani Waters, Charley Blackburn and former England Knight, Chloe Billington bringing experience. They’ve also added French international, Cristina Song-Puche, who has signed from Catalans Dragons.

The game kicks off at 2.30pm on Saturday 27th June. Before that, York Valkyrie Under 19s play Featherstone Rovers Under 19s at 11.30am.
