Head Coach James Ford has named his seventeen-man preliminary squad for Sunday’s trip to face Leigh Centurions with the Knights seeing a number of absentees.
The likes of Brendan O’Hagan and Danny Kirmond both miss out after picking up minor injuries in Monday’s defeat to Bradford that should see them return within the next fortnight. Pauli Pauli and Jordan Thompson are both also absent with scans set to take place on their injuries in the coming days while Brad Ward also misses out after picking up an injury while with Rochdale Hornets recently. Fellow teenager Toby Warren is also out with a knee injury.
These players all join long-term absentees Will Oakes, Masi Matongo and Olly Butterworth, the trio having already been ruled out for the remainder of the 2022 campaign.
That means Jamie Ellis will return to action against his former team while Marcus Stock, Myles Harrison and Tom Inman are set to return to the matchday squad for their first appearances since Dewsbury away, Halifax away and Featherstone away, respectively.
The Knights will face Leigh Centurions in Greater Manchester for the first time since a 34-0 defeat in early 2020. The previous year, however, York recorded a memorable 24-23 victory on route to securing a third-place finish in that year’s Betfred Championship table.
