Four members of York City Knights Ladies’ table-topping Betfred Women’s Super League squad have been named in the England squad of twenty for Sunday’s test match against Wales at Cross Keys RFC.
The match will be the national team’s first of two matches over the next two weekends and Sunday’s match will be shown LIVE on The Sportsman before a home match against France at Warrington Wolves’ Halliwell Jones Stadium on Saturday June 18th.
Back-rower Hollie Dodd, one of the Knights’ stand out performers in our strong start to 22022, has been included in the squad alongside prop forward Grace Field. Full-back Tara Jane Stanley, so impressive since joining the club in the off-season, has also been named alongside Olivia Wood. The former Bradford player was included in the extended squad for last year’s trip to face France in Perpignan but didn’t take to the field, meaning Sunday could be the day where Wood makes her England debut.
The likes of Courtney Winfield-Hill, now eligible for England under residency grounds, and Caroline Collie – a former Chelsea and Arsenal goalkeeper and the first player from the Betfred Women’s Super League South competition to be selected for England – could join Wood in making their debuts, should they take to the field.
Sunday’s match kickstarts England’s preparations for this year’s Rugby League World Cup and, should Craig Richards’ team progress through the group stage, they will take to the field at the LNER Community Stadium in a semi-final double-header.
