York RLFC Foundation has partnered up with other local groups and organisations across York to help families stay active, creative, and connected during the school break!

Families looking for fun, affordable ways to spend the October half term are invited to take part in “Give It a Go Week”, a special programme of free and low-cost activities running from 27th Oct to 31st Oct across York.

This half term, over 25 local clubs, groups, and organisations are opening their doors for young people to try new sports, activities, and hobbies. From rugby to crafts, there’s something for everyone — come and give it a go!

Organised by a partnership of local providers — including York RLFC Foundation, York Theatre Royal, Door 84, York City FC Foundation, The Place and others — Give It a Go Week encourages young people to try something new, stay active, and make the most of their local community.

It’s a chance to meet like-minded young people at local events, share in new experiences, and build lasting connections, with every activity designed to spark fun, friendship, and confidence. Whether it’s scoring your first rugby try, learning a new skill, or uncovering a hidden talent, this is your week to shine.

York RLFC Foundation is proposing to run a series of sessions across the week related to ‘Give it a Go Week’, offering children and young people an opportunity to get involved.

We want to highlight and deliver a selection of our programmes, inviting new participants to attend and signpost them to the appropriate activity.

We are offering different taster sessions for different age groups and abilities, such as Touch Rugby League, Wheelchair Rugby League, Learning Disability Rugby League, Multi sports holiday activity and a mini day camp for our RugBees Programme.

Adam Prentis, York RLFC Foundation Delivery Manager, said: “Give It a Go Week is all about helping people discover what’s on their doorstep.

"Whether it’s a sport you’ve never tried, a new hobby, or just spending time together with friends, there’s something for everyone.

“The concept behind the week is part of the York Youth Partnership initiative to highlight the range of opportunities that exist in the city. The week offers a place to belong and feel welcomed — where every young person can explore, discover their strengths, and feel part of a supportive community.”

Most activities are free or very low cost, but spaces may be limited, so early booking is encouraged.

Full details of events and how to sign up are available at www.yorkrlfc.com/schoolholidays or by contacting inclusion@yorkrlfc.com or calling 01904 670 880.
