York City Knights are delighted to confirm that prop James Green will be wearing the black and amber next season after agreeing a new one-year contract with the club.
The 29-year-old began his career at Hull KR and made 81 Super League appearances for The Robins between 2012 and 2016 before spells with Leigh Centurions and Castleford Tigers in 2017 and 2018 respectively. Green joined the Knights’ Betfred Championship rivals Bradford Bulls in 2019 and was a regular for the West Yorkshire team before moving to the Knights for 2020.
The towering prop appeared in five of York’s competitive matches this season, scoring his first try for the club in our 24-22 Coral Challenge Cup Round Four victory over London Broncos in February.
Head coach James Ford outlined his happiness of Green’s retention. “I’m pleased to retain James, he has plenty of strengths in his game – his intent of carry, ability to win us ruck speed, finding offloads and the threat he poses near the try line.
“We’ve had a good chat regarding areas we need to work at and I’m confident we’ll see a fitter sharper James Green in 2021. He was making good progress in 2020 regarding these details and I’m looking forwards to seeing him continue working at them.”
Green himself said: “I’m really happy to be re-signing. Although last season was very short, I really enjoyed it.
“Everyone wants to be a part of success and a professional environment and that’s exactly what we have here.”
