York Knights could put further pressure on the play off places in the Betfred Championship on Sunday if they can beat Halifax Panthers at The Shay (3pm).
Last week’s 34-4 win at home to Swinton Lions moved the Knights left them in eighth place in the table just one point behind sixth placed Doncaster.
Earlier this season, the Knights beat the Panthers 40-18 at the LNER Community Stadium in what was only their second win of the season.
Tries from AJ Towse, Ukuma Ta’ai and Josh Daley got York off to a flying start that afternoon. Further points from Davy Litten, Jimmy Keinhorst and a second from Daley sealed a comprehensive win.
Since then, York have gone on to win seven of their following nine league games.
Halifax are one of four teams sitting on 12 points, four points behind York, after an inconsistent year so far under the guidance of coach Liam Finn, who took over at the start of the campaign.
Since last meeting York, the Panthers have had wins against Doncaster (34-8), Barrow (38-28), Whitehaven (38-18) and Batley (22-16). Last week’s win against the Bulldogs ended a three match losing run.
There is plenty of experience in the Halifax squad, with influential half-back pairing Joe Keyes and Louis Jouffret leading the side around the pitch.
The Panthers also hit headlines in pre-season when they secured former England half, Gareth Widdop, as well as winger Greg Eden, who has now moved on to Featherstone Rovers.
There are also a couple of familiar faces in the Halifax team, with Tom Inman who played nine times for York in 2022 and James Saltonstall who scored nine tries in 18 appearances back in 2014.
