Harris signs new deal!

York City Knights are delighted to confirm that half-back Liam Harris has signed a new one-year deal with the Knights, thanks to the support of Squad Builder!

Harris is in the midst of his third spell with the Knights after first playing for the Club on dual-registration in 2017 – a year that included the famous victory that saw York become the first team to defeat Toronto Wolfpack.

He returned on loan in 2019 and played a starring role in helping the Knights secure a third-place finish in that year’s Betfred Championship table.

This campaign has seen Harris feature in every match since serving an early season suspension with the former Hull FC and Hull KR man currently topping our men’s try-scoring table with eighteen.

On retaining Harris, Head Coach James Ford said: “I’m really pleased that we’ve been able to keep Liam and I see him as another key retention for our squad.

“I feel he has had a very good season with some outstanding moments and it’s clear that Liam loves playing for this team and club.

“I believe we’ve always seen the best of Liam when he plays for us and, on a personal note, I’m delighted to continue working with someone I have such a positive relationship with.

“I’m looking forward to challenging Liam to be even better in 2023.”

On signing his new deal, Harris added: “I’m over the moon and glad have sorted another year here. I love playing at York so I’m really happy and looking forward to next season.”

Discussing his relationship with Ford, he said: “He’s the main reason I came back and he’s the main reason why I’ve come back a few times! It’s no secret that we get on well and I think that this year has seen him get the best out of me again.

“I still think there are a few levels to go so I’m hoping he can get the rest out of me!”

On his goals for 2023, Harris said: “Personally, I want to make sure I’m playing every game I’m available for. So far, I’ve done that this year and, barring the bans at the start of the year, I’ve played every game and that’s something I’m proud of.

“Improving week on week is a big thing as well, in whatever area that may be. I think this is the place, and the right culture, for me to improve the most.

“I want to be playing every game again and improve my performances each week. As a team, let’s see what we can do. We’re in the Semi-Finals this year and there’s no reason we can’t do that each year.”
