Introducing our Match Day Partner: The York Dungeon

York RLFC are pleased to introduce The York Dungeon as our Match Day Partner for our Inclusion Fixture against Batley Bulldogs on Sunday at the LNER Community Stadium (3pm)!

The York Dungeon is one of York's longest running visitor attractions, having opened at 12 Clifford Street in 1986.

Originally a waxworks museum with jump scares, the York Dungeon is now a live, interactive theatrical tour through York’s torturous history.

Together with an amazing cast of theatrical actors, special effects, stages and scenes, you will experience a highly sensitive experience with dark spaces, jump scares, sights, sounds (and smells!) of our great and gruesome past.

The Dungeon is recommended for children aged 8 and over, with the minimum age to visit being 5 years old.

Dungeon tours feature 10 shows, featuring the Vikings and the Saxons, the Plague, the haunting of 35 Stonegate, the Civil War, the Bloody Code, Micklegate Bar and York's history of executions.

There’s also Isabella Billington, a resident of Pocklington who was hanged for the crime of being a witch, and two of the most notorious "villains" associated with York; Guy Fawkes and Dick Turpin.

Guests also have the opportunity through random selection to become part of the show, and despite being tortured in this way, they apparently love their visit!

In 2023 they were awarded the Outstanding Customer Service Award at the Yorkshire Tourism Awards, and in March this year they were announced winners of York's Best Largest Visitor Attraction at the 2024 Visit York Tourism Awards.

Sometimes they even let our Dungeon Dwellers out onto the streets of York, and on Sunday at the LNER Community Stadium you will meet (and no doubt smell) two of them; the Jester and Smedley.

They are the hosts of the Little Peasants Walking Tour, a one hour guided tour of York suitable for little peasants of all ages, and winner of the Best Spooky Walking Tour at the Little Vikings Awards for 2023 and 2024!

They will be taking to the streets again this October, regaling you with torturous tales of York's rogues and rascals, but in the safety of the sunlight!

The York Dungeon is just one of a number of Dungeons operated by Merlin Entertainments, with more located in London, Edinburgh, Amsterdam, Berlin, Hamburg, Blackpool, and at Alton Towers and Warwick Castle.

The Jester and Smedley cannot wait to meet you on Sunday 25th August and are looking forward to seeing the York Knights giving the Batley Bulldogs an "excruciating" welcome to York!
