Keighley Cougars v York Knights - Match Preview

🤝 York RLFC Match Previews are proudly partnered by David Lloyd York!

York Knights will be aiming to maintain their position above Keighley Cougars in the Betfred Championship table when they make the trip to Cougar Park on Sunday (3pm).

York sit 10th in the Betfred Championship table at present, ahead of 11th-placed Keighley on the basis of a superior points difference, with both sides having accumulated 12 points from 17 league matches.

Following last weekend's 28-18 victory over Halifax Panthers at the LNER Community Stadium, the Knights will be hopeful of securing back-to-back wins to ensure their spot above Keighley in the ladder and to further close in on Widnes (eighth) and Whitehaven (ninth), who boast 14 points thus far.

Andrew Henderson's side also have the added motivation of attempting to avenge Good Friday's 22-10 home defeat to the Cougars earlier this season.

Bailey Antrobus put York ahead inside just six minutes before tries from Dane Chisholm, Ben Crooks, Jimmy Keinhorst and Mark Ioane put Keighley into an unassailable lead, with Liam Harris only able to register a consolation try in response.

While the Knights have won five times following that defeat, the Cougars have picked up just two victories since, beating Whitehaven on both occasions (24-32 and 28-18).

A 74-12 thrashing to local rivals Bradford Bulls at Odsal on Sunday was the latest in a sequence of eight defeats from their last 10 matches for Keighley, who will desperate to produce a response this weekend.

York make the trip to Cougar Park to face last year's unbeaten Betfred League One champions for the first time since June 2018.

Connor Robinson bagged two tries while Tim Spears, Joe Batchelor, Graeme Horne, Joe Porter and Mike Kelly also crossed the whitewash that afternoon for the visitors, who would go to claim that year's Betfred League One title.

York Knights will be seeking back-to-back victories in the Betfred Championship when they visit Keighley Cougars at Cougar Park on Sunday (3pm).
