Knights and Halifax set to clash as preparations continue

This Sunday afternoon sees Betfred Championship rivals Halifax RLFC visit Bootham Crescent as both teams continue their preparations ahead of the 2020 season in what will be our sole home pre-season friendly.

Last season saw the Knights come out on top in both league encounters against our West Yorkshire opponents, winning an exciting home encounter 38-16 in March as well as prevailing in an even contest in the final match of the regular season, recording a 14-8 victory which included a memorable length of the field try for former Halifax half-back Connor Robinson. Two players have made the same switch in the off-season and Will Sharp will join Ben Johnston in playing against their former club on Sunday afternoon.

Halifax have recruited heavily in the off-season after missing out on the Betfred Championship play-offs in 2019, their headline recruits arguably being Jodie Broughton and Keegan Hirst, the former joining Simon Grix’s team from Super League’s Catalans Dragons while Hirst made his loan switch permanent after making the move from Wakefield Trinity. Halifax come into this match after two other pre-season matches, a victory over a young Hull FC team while last weekend saw them face Huddersfield Giants in Jermaine McGillvary’s testimonial match where they fell to a 42-6 defeat.

Please note there are no advance ticket sales ahead of this match with all fans to pay on the gate. Ticket prices are £15 for adults, £10 for concessions and, as always, under 16s can watch the game for free. We hope to see as many of you there to cheer the lads on as we prepare for the 2020 Betfred Championship season.
