Knights look for another Cup run!

The Knights enter 2022’s Betfred Challenge Cup this weekend in the fourth round against Newcastle Thunder at the LNER Community Stadium (3pm KO) and will be keen to replicate last year’s run in the competition this season.

Early season victories in 2021 over Sheffield Eagles and London Broncos qualified the Knights for the semi-finals of the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup and, after defeating Swinton Lions in the last four, a first appearance at Wembley Stadium for ninety years beckoned for James Ford’s team in July.

While the showpiece finals will this year take place at the home of Premier League football team Tottenham Hotspur in their billion-pound stadium, the Challenge Cup will once again feed into the 1895 Cup, now going into it’s third season after beginning in 2019 before a year off due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It returned last year and Ford’s team will be looking to, once again, reach the final and earn a big day out in the capital for the Knights faithful.

Five clubs from the Championship, League One and amateur game are able to qualify for the 1895 Cup, should they progress to the sixth round of the Challenge Cup.

The RFL have stated that a play-off match – the details of which have yet to be revealed – will take place over the weekend of April 9/10 before the semi-finals follow on either May 7th or 8th.

The Betfred Challenge Cup and AB Sundecks 1895 Cup Finals will take place on Saturday May 28th.

Ticket buyers for this Sunday’s Challenge Cup match against Newcastle Thunder will receive a voucher for a FREE cinema ticket thanks to nationwide chain Cineworld. Tickets are priced at £20 for adults, £15 for concessions (17-21 years old) and FREE for under-16s.

Offer only available to ticket buyers aged 17 and above.
