Leeds Rhinos v York Valkyrie: Match Preview

York Valkyrie’s defence of their Betfred Women’s Super League title ramps up this weekend as they travel to Headingley to take on Leeds Rhinos in the play-off semi finals on Sunday (5pm)!

It’s a repeat of the 2023 Grand Final, which the Valkyrie won 16-6 in front of a Grand Final record crowd of 4547 spectators.

Tries that day from Tamzin Renouf, Tara-Jane Stanley and Lacey Owen with two goals from Stanley took York to their first ever Grand Final win. In reply for Leeds, Ruby Enright kicked a penalty while Caitlin Casey scored a try on the final whistle.

In 2022, Leeds won their second Super League title, beating York 12-4 in the final, with Caitlin Beevers scoring two tries for the Rhinos and Courtney Winfield-Hill adding two goals, while Sinead Peach scored York’s only try of the game.

That followed Leeds’ first win in 2019, when they beat Lindsay Anfield’s Castleford Tigers in the final.

This year it’s one win each in the league, with Leeds edging a 16-10 win at the LNER Community Stadium in May, before the Valkyrie gained revenge at Headingley three weeks ago with a 37-6 victory.

The Valkyrie will be without Tara-Jane Stanley because of an ACL injury she sustained in the league game against Leeds at Headingley.

It promises to be another hard fought battle for the right to meet either St.Helens or Wigan Warriors in the final on 6th October.
