Leeds Rhinos v York Valkyrie: Match Preview

York Valkyrie travel to Leeds Rhinos in the Betfred Women’s Super League on Saturday 6th June (2pm)!

The game at AMT Headingley Stadium is the first time they two have met in 2026, having avoided each other in the Betfred Challenge Cup semi-finals.

Both have won one of their opening two matches, and Leeds sit just above York on points difference in third place.

They lost narrowly, 18-10 in the opening round of the season to champions, Wigan Warriors, before beating newly promoted Featherstone Rovers, 60-6.

York beat Huddersfield 42-0 before losing a tight game to St.Helens but 18 points to 14.

It was one win each when York met Leeds last year, with both sides winning at home. York were 24-16 winners at the LNER Community Stadium, before the Rhinos won 30-14 at Headingley at the end of the year.

Since then, there have been changes for both clubs, with Leon Pryce taking over as head coach of the Valkyrie, and Leeds losing some players. Izzy Northrop and Bella Sykes have taken opportunities to play in Australia while Bethan Dainton has joined Wigan.

There’s likely to be some familiar faces in the Leeds line up, with former Valkyrie, Liv Whitehead, Grace Field, Lacey Owen and Jess Sharp in the squad. There’s also NRLW experience with Mel Howard and England internationals, Keara Bennett and Lucy Murray.

The Valkyrie could feature former Leeds Rhinos Under 19, Brooke Henderson, who moved to York over the winter and Tara Moxon who is now in her second season with the Valkyrie.

Tickets are £10 for adults. Juniors aged 16 and under are free and can gain admission on the day, and they must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over.

Supporters will be in unreserved seating in the North Stand, or on the AMT East Stand Terrace.
