Limbert & Williams look ahead for YCKL

25 days and counting until the Betfred Women’s Super League campaign gets underway. Last year saw York finish seventh as they continued to find their feet in the top tier, but the Knights players and coaches remain steadfast that 2020 will not disappoint.

York City Knights Ladies duo Christina Williams and Deanna Limbert are excited for the upcoming 2020 season and are confident the team will produce an improved campaign.

Williams is set for her first full season as a Knights player and will be looking to have a huge impact with the club. She said “What I love already about this club is the togetherness… I travel up from Doncaster to be part of such a great team.”

Head Coach Daryl North spoke highly of the York City Knights Ladies during their preseason so far. He said “Training has been going really well… they have stepped it up a level for this season and are really putting themselves about now”

York City Knights Ladies recorded a confidence building 18-8 friendly victory over Huddersfield Giants and Daryl believes that the intensity of their preseason was the difference in that game “We played Wakefield last year in the exact same scenario, giving away too many penalties and we lost that game, which shows we are definitely going in the right direction.”

Limbert meanwhile is remaining focused on working hard for the time being. She said, “I enjoyed our win over Huddersfield. We are trying to carry that performance heading forward… That was a good start to 2020 but it was just a friendly and there is still room for improvement and a lot of work still to do.”

Assistant coach Kay Rollinson added that the Knights’ team spirit is a key factor in their improvement so far in preseason. “We’ve always prided ourselves at York in being a family unit and in training that bond has always been big but there is just a complete new mindset this year”

The York City Knights Ladies begin their 2020 Super League campaign with a home clash over the Huddersfield Giants, kicking off at 2pm at York St John Sports Park.
