York Knights have retained the services of influential hooker, Paul McShane, thanks to support from Squadbuilder!

The 35-year old has made a huge impact at the club since joining from Castleford last season, going on to be shortlisted for the Betfred Championship Player of the Year, and winning the Danny Sheehan award at the end of season awards night.

Before joining the Knights, McShane made more than 200 appearances over the course of ten seasons for Castleford Tigers.

In his career, he earned two England caps, and was named Man of Steel in 2020.

As well as being part of the playing squad, he's also worked alongside Mark Applegarth and the coaching staff.

Head coach Mark Applegarth said: “I’m delighted the little bush pig has agreed a new deal!

"He’s 100 percent got another year in him. He’s been been in outstanding form this year and he’s a real leader by action, not just words.

"He's an unbelievable person and player. I love having him about. He compliments Liam, Ata and Toa very well. He keeps us to that structure which is what we need.

"I'm over the moon we’ve got a player of that calibre and I’ll be delighted to welcome him in to the coaching staff once he does finish playing."

McShane spoke about the re-signing: "I'm really happy to have re-signed with the club and be part of its history.

"I didn’t expect to play SL again but looking forward to the challenge ahead of us."
