York City Knights are delighted to announce the capture of highly rated half-back Morgan Smith from London Broncos for the 2021 Betfred Championship season.
The 22 year old former England Academy pivot came through the Warrington academy and made 25 first team appearances for the Wolves.
He made the switch to the capital for London Broncos’ Super League challenge in 2019, and made 17 appearances as the Broncos almost pulled off a memorable great escape.
Morgan is the son of former Knights cult hero John ‘the Bull’ Smith, who was a part of the 2005 promotion-winning squad.
Knights Head Coach James Ford said: “I’m very excited to work with Morgan and help him kick on and fulfil his potential. I was very impressed with his maturity, intelligence and drive to be the best he can be. I’m confident he’ll fit right in and help us progress in the direction we’re aiming.
“Morgan has good defensive contact, an intelligent attacking game, and I believe he can develop into an outstanding running threat.
“I see Morgan as a pivotal member of our squad and I can’t wait to start working with him.”
Morgan added: “I’m really happy to have signed with the Knights. I know that the club is on the up with plenty of ambition and I’ve seen the progress they have made over the last couple of years with a coach who I believe can help me improve and progress personally.
“Personally, I want to play the best rugby I ever have in 2021 but my overall aim is to do as much as I can to help the club push for promotion.”
