York Knights' play off hopes could take a big step forwards if they can win at Sheffield Eagles at Olympic Legacy Park on Friday night (7.30pm).
With just one game remaining after this, a win for York would take them level on points with the fourth placed Eagles, who beat Featherstone Rovers 20-6 last week.
It’s the fourth time this year the Knights have met the Eagles, and it’s been a Sheffield win on each occasion.
After a 32-16 win at the LNER Community Stadium in the fourth round of the Betfred Challenge Cup, the Eagles also registered wins in the semi finals of the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup (28-18), and in the league (18-10).
Since that last meeting in June, the form of both clubs has turned.
For York, that loss at home to the Eagles is one of only four defeats in fourteen games since Mark Applegarth took over as head coach in June.
One of those losses was last week at League Leaders Shield winners, Wakefield Trinity.
The Eagles had been on a run of five games without a win until last weekend, following the suspension of head coach, Mark Aston.
He’s been away from the club since July on a “no fault basis” while the RFL are investigating a medical compliance matter.
The run of disappointing results had seen them slip down the table and put their place in the top six at the end of the season in question.
Last week’s win at Featherstone has put them firmly back in the race for the top six, while the Knights are just two points behind them in sixth.
Coming up against York will be former Knights, Matty Marsh, Ben Jones-Bishop and James Glover.
