York City Knights Ladies continue their 2022 Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup run this Sunday at the LNER Community when Lindsay Anfield’s team play host to Oulton Raidettes in the quarter-finals of the competition.
The Knights come into the match off the back of a 100% record in the group stage of the new-look competition, having scored two hundred points and conceded just four in victories over Dewsbury Moor, Wigan Warriors and Bradford Bulls.
The win over Wigan Warriors was the first time the Ladies had played at the LNER Community Stadium in 2022 and, after that 46-0 win, the team return home this weekend.
Oulton Raidettes qualified for the quarter-finals after finishing second in Group Four of the Challenge Cup, recording 40-0 and 12-14 victories over Castleford Tigers and Wakefield Trinity, respectively.
Those wins over Betfred Women’s Super League opposition show that Oulton, set to compete in the Championship competition this year, pose a threat but Anfield’s team will be confident of reaching the semi-finals for the second consecutive year.
2021 saw the Ladies defeated in their first-ever Challenge Cup final by St Helens at Leigh Sports Village and a place in the semi-final double-header at Warrington’s Halliwell Jones Stadium will be on the cards for Sunday’s victor.
After missing out on the squad last time out against Bradford, England full-back Tara Jane Stanley returns to contention along with loose-forward Rhiannion Marshall.
Centre duo Tamzin Renouf and Savannah Andrade have been among the try-scorers so far in 2022 and look set to line up alongside each other once again. Half-backs Georgie Hetherington and Katie Langan are two of the three options available to Anfield with youngster Olivia Gale – a Knights debutant in victory over Bradford – also included in this weekend’s preliminary squad.
The match at the LNER Community Stadium kicks off at 2pm on Sunday and tickets are priced at £7 for adults, £5 for concessions and free for under-16s. Tickets are available ahead of matchday from the York Stadium Management Company Ticket Office online HERE, over the phone on 01904 942232 or in-person. Supporters will also be able to purchase tickets on the day from the Ticket Office Booth at the back of the North Stand.
