Squad named for Workington trip

James Ford has named his 21-Man Squad for Sunday’s trip to face Workington Town at Derwent Park in our Betfred Championship Round Seven match.

Fresh from a weekend off after an excellent showing in victory against Widnes last time out, Ford’s men head to Cumbria to face Workington for the first time since 2018.

Brendan O’Hagan, so impressive last time out, is set to continue his return to regular action and, with Jamie Ellis absent after picking up a minor hamstring issue during the Widnes match, he looks set to line up in the halves alongside Liam Harris.

Will Oakes continues to be absent with a groin issue, picked up during the victory in London last month, with Brad Ward and AJ Towse in contention to line up in his absence. Ward, impressive in the early stages of his Knights career, scoring his second try in Knights colours during the victory over Widnes and will be looking to make his fourth appearance of the season while Towse could make his second.

Joe Porter is included and could make his first league appearance since signing his new contract after recovering from the elbow injury he sustained against Whitehaven on the Knights’ last trip to Cumbria in March’s Betfred Challenge Cup defeat.

Kriss Brining, absent in the matchday squad since making his 150th career appearance against London Broncos, returns to the preliminary squad after missing out against Widnes and will be vying with fellow hookers Will Jubb and Sam Davis for a shirt on Sunday.

Sunday will be the Knights’ first trip to face Workington since sealing a crucial 14-18 victory at Derwent Park in September 2018, a victory that helped push the Knights to the Betfred League One title and promotion to the Championship.
