York City Knights have made another addition to their 2021 Betfred Championship squad with the re-signing of hooker Will Jubb on a one year deal, thanks to the help of Squadbuilder.
Jubb previously captained the City of Hull Academy side and made a try-scoring debut for Hull KR in the 2016 Super League Qualifiers. He first joined the Knights on dual registration in 2017, featuring 16 times and scoring 5 tries.
He signed a permanent deal for 2018 and made 18 appearances (5 tries) in the League 1 title-winning team, and was also a member of the England Universities team that won the Student Home Nations tournament.
23 year old Jubb went on to make 25 appearances (3 tries) in 2019 as the Knights shocked the Championship with their memorable third place finish, and made a further 6 appearances in 2020 before the season was cancelled due to Coronavirus.
Knights Head Coach James Ford said: “It’s been a pleasure to see Will continue to improve at the rate he has over the last few seasons. He has outstanding skill, ruck reactions & deception and his defensive contact has really kicked on. This development is based upon Will’s drive to be better, his intelligence and his approach to feedback. As long as these characteristics remain consistent Jubby will continue to grow as a player and a person.
“I see Will as a key player in our squad who has shown repeatedly he is willing to put the teams needs first.
“I’d like to thank the efforts of our supporters - specifically Squadbuilder and the 2020 Knights Patrons for their hard work and continuing commitment, which is enabling us to plan and build for what will hopefully be another successful season.”
Jubb added: “I’m really excited to still be part of the York City Knights journey and have the opportunity to play my part in what the club is wanting to achieve. It was an absolute no brainier for me to sign again as I love the club, the fans are absolutely unbelievable and we have a great set of lads here. Nothing can compare to playing with all the lads in front of the Knights fans and how they really get behind the team and lift us throughout the games and that is something I wouldn’t want to play without.
“I’m also really excited to get to play in the new stadium, which looks absolutely fantastic! Having the chance to work with a great coach in Fordy - and all the coaching staff - again was another big factor and will definitely help me to keep improving my game and trying to get better which I’m always looking to do.
“I’m really happy to still have the chance to represent York City Knights and I’m looking forward to the challenge of another year of Championship rugby and getting back into it after such a tough year for everyone.”
