St Helens v York Valkyrie - Match Preview

🤝 York RLFC Match Previews are proudly partnered by David Lloyd York!

York Valkyrie will be hoping to establish a five-point lead at the top of the Betfred Women's Super League when they travel to second-placed St Helens at the Totally Wicked Stadium on Friday night (5.30pm), live on Sky Sports.

York have taken 11 points from their first six league matches- after five wins and one draw- leaving themselves three points above St Helens, who have amassed eight points (four victories and one defeat) thus far.

The Valkyrie will be seeking to maintain their unbeaten start and pick up another two points as they bid to become the first Club to retain the League Leaders' Shield in the Betfred Women's Super League.

Lindsay Anfield's side will be fully aware of the tough task awaiting them in Merseyside, having suffered their first defeat to 2023 to St Helens in the Betfred Women's Challenge Cup Semi-Finals on Saturday.

Faye Gaskin's last-minute drop-goal secured a 17-16 victory for Saints at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, denying York an appearance in next month's Final at Wembley Stadium.

Despite the disappointment of the Semi-Final exit, the Valkyrie travel across the Pennines with a league win over St Helens to their name in 2023.

York ran out as 26-6 winners at the LNER Community Stadium back in April as a Tamzin Renouf double and tries from Emma Kershaw, Hollie-Mae Dodd and Rhiannion Marshall inspired the home success, sealing the Club's biggest ever BWSL win over St Helens.

York Valkyrie resume their Betfred Women's Super League campaign against St Helens on Friday night (5.30pm) at the Totally Wicked Stadium.
