York City Knights teenage winger AJ Towse has been nominated for this year’s Betfred Championship Young Player of the Year award.
Towse, 19, has enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2022 after making his Knights debut against Wigan Warriors in 2021. Coming into the team, initially after injuries to other wingers presented him with an opportunity, the Heworth product has moved to establish himself on the left flank with eight tries in sixteen appearances in all competitions.
Increasingly effective in yardage as well as being capable of acrobatic finishes – see his effort from our home match against Batley Bulldogs in July – Towse has been nominated alongside Sam Eseh (Barrow Raiders/Featherstone Rovers) and Oli Leyland (London Broncos) for the award.
The winner will be announced on Monday 26th September at the Betfred Championship and League One Awards Ceremony, an occasion that will also be streamed live on Our League.
Voting has been conducted by a poll of the Head Coaches in each competition, producing a top three in each category.
