York Valkyrie travel to Wigan Warriors for the Betfred Super League Grand Final at the Brick Community Stadium on Sunday (5.30pm)!

It’s the Valkyrie’s fourth Grand Final appearance in five years, having last appeared in 2024, when they beat St.Helens 16-6 to claim back to back titles.

That followed a 12-4 win over Leeds Rhinos in the 2023 Grand Final, becoming the first team to claim back to back championships.

Since then, Wigan Warriors have risen to become the team to beat, and after claiming the treble last season, they’re hoping to repeat that feat this year.

After beating St.Helens in last year’s Grand Final, 16-12, Denis Betts’ side has again gone on to win every piece of silverware so far this season.

They finished clear top of the league, suffering only one defeat, which was at York two weeks ago in the Super 4s. That 26-12 win for York was the first time Wigan had lost a game in over a year.

However, Wigan have had the better of York three times this season, beating them 44-0 at Wigan and 32-12 at York in the league, and 52-0 in the Betfred Challenge Cup semi-final in May.

York go into the final in their best form of the season, winning three of their four final games in the Super 4s, and beating Leeds Rhinos 12-0 last weekend in the play-off semi-final at AMT Headingley Stadium.

Thanks to finishing top of the table, Wigan had a week off ahead of this game and they also get home advantage as a result of winning the League Leaders’ Shield.

For York, Tara-Jane Stanley will miss the game due to HIA protocols, while for Wigan, former Valkyrie, Kelsey Gentles has been ruled out with a hand injury sustained against York two weeks ago.

The game kicks off at 5.30pm on Sunday 27th September.

Tickets are priced at £16 for Adults (age 16 & over) and £6 for Juniors (under 16).

The match is a double header with the Women's Promotion Play off final.

Coaches will leave the North Layby at the LNER Community Stadium at 2pm.
