By Cameron Harris, York City Knights Ladies Team Manager.
The Betfred Women's Super League has expanded once again for the 2020 season, meaning that we should see much more competitive games across the board. The Knights found our form in the back end of last season putting in some more than solid performances. However, this year I’m excited to see what this Knights Ladies team can achieve.
York City Knights Ladies are a great set of girls with indescribable amounts of heart, and underrated quality to match. There is a real belief this year that this set of girls can go out and achieve good things in the Super League this season.
The introduction of myself into the Team Manager role has lifted some pressure of the coaches and has allowed them to focus solely on coaching and the benefits are being seen on the training pitch and it showed in our impressive pre season victory over fellow Super League members, Huddersfield Giants last weekend.
We start our season at home to Huddersfield on 27th March looking to replicate that victory, it would be amazing to see as much support there as possible. I can’t wait for this season!
York City Knights Ladies team play in, and are Founder members of, the Betfred Women's Super League. Now entering its third season the team play fixtures against such iconic club names such as Bradford Bulls, Castleford Tigers, Featherstone Rovers, Huddersfield Giants, Leeds Rhinos, St Helens, Wakefield Trinity, Warrington Wolves and Wigan Warriors. Women's Rugby League has been well established in the city for a number of years and having the Ladies under the umbrella of the Knights will help not only promote Women's participation in the sport but also inspire talented females to play at the highest level of the sport. Coached by Daryl North and the experienced Kay Rollinson the team have a great level of camaraderie and always welcome new players.
