York Knights v Barrow Raiders: Match Preview

โ€‹โ€‹๐Ÿค York RLFC Match Previews are proudly sponsored by David Lloyd York!

York Knights will be seeking to establish a four-point lead over Barrow Raiders in the Betfred Championship when the two sides meet at the LNER Community Stadium on Sunday afternoon (3pm).

Both York (ninth) and Barrow (12th) currently find themselves on 10 points, having won five and lost eight thus far in the Betfred Championship, alongside Whitehaven (10th) and Halifax Panthers (11th).

All four sides trail sixth-placed Featherstone Rovers, who occupy the final Play-Off place, by two points, and hold a two-point advantage over second-from-bottom and relegation-threatened Swinton Lions at the halfway stage of the league campaign.

York were denied a third straight Betfred Championship win after last weekendโ€™s tightly-fought 18-10 defeat to Sheffield Eagles, who remain in second.

Having trailed 12-0 at the break, Brad Ward and Ata Hingano tries got the Knights within touching distance of the Eagles before Joel Farrellโ€™s late score at the death, having previously seen Kris Welham and Anthony Thackeray touch down.

Having won four of their last six matches however, Mark Applegarthโ€™s Knights head to the LNER Community Stadium as the form side between this pair, with Barrow having taken just four points from their last half-a-dozen outings.

The Raiders ran up a 16-4 lead away to Toulouse Olympique back in May before going down 38-16 at the Stade Ernest-Wallon.

Barrow responded with an emphatic 25-12 victory over last yearโ€™s Betfred Championship League Leadersโ€™ Shield winners Featherstone Rovers - their first triumph in that fixture after six straight defeats - but successive defeats to Bradford Bulls (36-24) and Halifax Panthers (28-38) followed either side of the break for the Betfred Challenge Cup Final.

Paul Crareyโ€™s men got back to winning ways at Swinton Lions thanks to 24-10 success, but last time out they found themselves becoming the victim of a 13th consecutive league win for Wakefield Trinity, going down 36-0 and suffering a second niling from their last eight matches.

While far from in their best vein of form, Barrow travel down from Cumbria fresh from the memory of Aprilโ€™s dramatic 15-14 win over York, secured thanks to a Luke Cresswell and a penultimate-minute match-winning drop-goal from Brad Walker.
