York Knights v Batley Bulldogs: Match Preview

đŸ€ York RLFC Match Previews are proudly sponsored by David Lloyd York!

York Knights take on Batley Bulldogs looking for a third consecutive win in the Betfred Championship on Sunday at the LNER Community Stadium (3pm).

With only points difference separating York and Batley, who lie in seventh and eighth place and just two points off the top six, a win could be vital for both club’s play off ambitions.

It’s also Inclusion Day at York RLFC, with our Wheelchair Festival and LDRL Festival among the events taking place.

The Knights are on a high after winning in Toulouse last week, 20-12, for their first victory in France since 2011.

That followed a 54-12 win at home to Dewsbury the week before.

Batley are also hoping for a third consecutive victory after wins over Sheffield Eagles (24-14) and Swinton (26-6).

When York and Batley last met in April, Batley came out 22-18 winners at the Fox's Biscuits Stadium for what was their second win of the season.

The Bulldogs took a 22-0 lead in that game before the Knights launched a late comeback with  three tries in six minutes late in the second half through Ukuma Ta’ai, Jordan Thompson and Tom Lineham.

Like the Knights, Batley had a slow start to the year under coach, Mark Moxon, who took over from Craig Lingard in the close season. Two wins in their opening nine games meant they’ve had to make up ground to have a chance of reaching the top six.

However, also like York, eight wins in their last 12 matches have put them back in the mix for a play-off spot.

When the teams last met at the LNER Community Stadium last September it turned into a memorable evening from a York point of view.  A Liam Harris drop goal in the dying seconds of the game secured a 15-14 win for the Knights to keep them on track for reaching the play-offs.

Both York and Batley will be hoping for a win this time around for the same reason.
