The York Knights-Bradford Bulls rivalry will be reignited at the LNER Community Stadium on Monday evening (7.45pm) as the two foes go head to head in front of the Viaplay cameras.
York and Bradford have developed a competitive feud since the pair went toe-to-toe for the Betfred League One title in 2018.
Joe Keyes’ last-kick-of-the-game penalty goal earned the Bulls a 22-20 win at Bootham Crescent on the opening day that year but James Ford’s side had the last laugh.
A Judah Mazive double inspired a 30-28 victory at Odsal and the Knights pipped the promotion favourites to the League One title by two points.
York registered the league double over Bradford in 2019, with a late Liam Harris drop-goal earning a dramatic 25-24 triumph at Bootham Crescent and creating another classic between the two Clubs.
The four-time Betfred Super League champions recovered to twice topple the Knights in 2021 before the pair claimed one win each over the other last year.
After York secured a 20-6 win at Odsal, Bradford managed to grind out a 20-16 victory at the LNER Community Stadium.
That result was a rare bright spark in a substandard 2022 for Bradford. After losing 16 of their 27 matches, the Bulls finished ninth, 14 points adrift of the Betfred Championship Play-Offs, their lowest finish since promotion in 2018.
As a result, Bradford have overhauled their squad in pursuit of a return to the top six.
Leeds Rhinos pair Jack Walker and Bodene Thompson headline their high-profile recruitment drive alongside Huddersfield Giants quartet Michael Lawrence, Chester Butler, George Roby and Fenton Rogers, the latter pair on loan.
Papua New Guinea international Keven Appo, ex-Castleford Tigers half-back Tom Holmes and London Broncos forward Brad Foster also among the eye-catching off-season additions.
Kieran Gill bagged a double in the 24-8 win over Whitehaven on the Betfred Championship’s opening day as the new era at Bradford got underway with a victory.
The Knights will be seeking to bounce back from the narrow 19-12 defeat they suffered to Widnes Vikings in round one.
