York Knights v Doncaster: Match Preview

🤝 York RLFC Match Previews are proudly sponsored by David Lloyd York!

York Knights will try to move above Doncaster in the Betfred Championship when the sides meet on Sunday at the LNER Community Stadium (3pm).

There’s just one point between them in the table, with York in eighth place on 12 points and Doncaster one place above them on 13 points.

In a tight Championship table, a win for either side will put pressure on Featherstone Rovers who sit in the final Play-Off place on 14 points, while defeat could pull them into the pack of teams threatened with relegation, where four teams are level on 10 points.

York got their third win in four games under the leadership of Mark Applegarth last weekend, with a comprehensive 54-12 win over Barrow,. It moved them two points clear of their opponents who sit second from bottom.

Six first half tries, including a brace from Joe Brown, saw the Knights ease to a 22-6 lead at half time. A dominant second period saw two tries from captain,Liam Harris, including a near length of the field interception, help them make sure of another two league points. Nikau Williams crossed for the last try of the afternoon, in what was the pick of the bunch.

Doncaster have won their last two league games after a run of five without a win. However, a draw at home to Whitehaven in that run meant they did pick up a point. After beating Swinton 18-8 a fortnight ago, they then edged past bottom club Dewsbury 20-16 last weekend. A stronger second half performance meant they overturned a 14-4 half time deficit, including a try from former Knights forward, Pauli Pauli, and four goals from Connor Robinson.

York travelled to Doncaster on the opening day of the season, where Richard Horne’s newly promoted side ran out 36-20 winners. If they’re to do the double over the Knights, it would be only their third away win in the league this season.
