York Knights v Hull FC: Match Preview

York Knights are back at the LNER Community Stadium on Thursday 9th July (8pm), taking on Hull FC in Betfred Super League!

The game brings two teams together that are separated by just points difference in the table, with Hull FC in tenth place and York in twelfth, both with five wins.

York go into the match after back to back wins for the first time in Super League, following the victory at Castleford (20-14), followed by the 36-24 Magic WKND result against Huddersfield Giants.

The Knights’ Sam Wood will be serving the second game of his two match suspension, and will still be ruled out.

Hull FC have won once in their last eight games, beating Huddersfield 36-12 last month at the MKM Stadium. However, they recently pushed Wigan with a good performance, losing 20-16 after late points from the Warriors, and went down 24-12 to rivals, Hull KR at Magic WKND.

Now coached by Andy Last, who took over earlier in the season from John Cartwright, the Black and Whites are still dealing with a lengthy, and in some cases, long term injury list. Will Pryce, John Asiata, Sam Lisone and former York forward, Connor Bailey have all been ruled out for large amounts of the season. Davy Litten will also miss this week, having failed a HIA last weekend.

When the teams met at the MKM Stadium in round three this season, York managed a 17-16 victory, thanks to two tries on debut from David Nofoaluma, one from Ben Jones-Bishop, and two goals and crucial drop goal from Danny Richardson. In reply, Hull scored through Harvey Barron, Davy Litten and Lewis Martin, with two goals from Zak Hardaker. That was York’s first win at Hull since 1977.

The last time York played Hull at home was in 1997 at the Huntington Stadium in the divisional premiership, with a 50-12 Hull win. The last home win for York was back in 1976, when the Wasps won 12-9 at Clarence Street.
