York Knights face Toulouse Olympique in the biggest game of the year on Sunday in the Betfred Championship Grand Final at the LNER Community Stadium (2pm)!

It’s the culmination of a season’s work, which has seen Mark Applegarth’s team win 20 consecutive matches, picking up the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup and the Betfred Championship League Leaders’ Shield along the way.

It’s the first time the Knights have reached this far in the end of season play offs, with the semi-finals being the furthest they’ve previously been. Last year, they were beaten by Wakefield 22-13 at the DIY Kitchens Stadium. Wakefield went on to beat Toulouse 36-0 in the final.

Olympique finished second in the table this year, and mounted a comeback in their semi final last weekend, coming from 16-0 down to beat Bradford Bulls 24-20. That result put them into their fourth Grand Final. In 2021, they beat Featherstone 34-12 to move up to Super League. After relegation back to the Championship in 2023, they lost 18-14 to London in that year’s Grand Final. Last year ended with that defeat at Wakefield.

In the league this year, it’s been one win each. In just the second league game of the year, it was a Jake Shorrocks drop goal that separated the sides with Toulouse winning 7-6 at the LNER Community Stadium, to become one of only four teams to have beaten York this season.

The last meeting was in France in August, when the Knights battled to a crucial 18-6 win on their way to lifting the League Leaders’ Shield. Scott Galeano scored twice in that game , with one try from Oli Field, after Thomas Lacans had put Toulouse into an early lead.

Although games between York and Toulouse have been tight, the Knights are still to beat their opponents at the LNER Community Stadium. York will be keen to make sure that record is broken as they try to make it a clean sweep of trophies in 2025.
