York Knights will be seeking to avoid a cup upset when they begin their Betfred Challenge Cup campaign against community club West Bowling at the LNER Community Stadium on Sunday (3pm).
York enter the competition at its Third Round stage and face a West Bowling side that have progressed through the First and Second Rounds thanks to wins over Waterhead (30-12) and Lock Lane (22-30).
The Bradford club compete in the Performance Impact National Conference League Division One, the second tier of the community game.
Last season, West Bowling finished fifth in Division One, winning 14 of their 23 league matches and finishing just five points adrift of champions Kells.
Despite the gulf in resources between the sides, West Bowling will enter the contest with little to lose and no shortage of momentum after a 66-8 home win over Crosfields in their NCL opener last weekend at Horsfall Community Stadium.
The visitors may also head to North Yorkshire with some insider knowledge on Knights Head Coach Andrew Henderson.
Dean Muir is the man in charge at West Bowling and is familiar with Henderson, having last year been the Assistant Coach at Keighley Cougars, where the current York boss was previously Director of Rugby.
Alongside Keighley Head Coach Rhys Lovegrove, the trio enjoyed a remarkable 2022, winning the League One title after 20 wins from as many league matches.
