York Knights v Wigan Warriors: Match Preview

York Knights return to the LNER Community Stadium this week to face Betfred Challenge Cup winners, Wigan Warriors on Saturday 20th June (3pm)!
It’s being played as a double header, with York Valkyrie taking on their counterparts from Wigan in the Betfred Women’s Super League.
This is the second clash for the men this season, having not previously met in the league before that since 1986. Back in March at the Brick Community Stadium, Wigan edged home by one point, 23 points to 22. David Nofoaluma, Ata Hingano and Paul Vaughan scored for York, with Danny Richardson adding five goals.
Noah Hodkinson, Zack Eckersley and Liam Marshall (2) hit back for Wigan, with three goals from Adam Keighran and the crucial drop goal from Harry Smith.
Since that night, Wigan have got players back from injury, including Jai Field and Bevan French, who made his return from a long injury in the Betfred Challenge Cup final win at Wembley.
This is Wigan’s second trip to the LNER Community Stadium, having last played here in 2021 in the third round of the Challenge Cup. Wigan won 26-0 in that game which was played behind closed doors due to covid restrictions.
None of the York team who played that night is still with the club, although Myles Harrison has featured this season on loan from Newcastle Thunder. Harry Smith, Oliver Partington and Ethan Havard were all on the team sheet for Wigan, and could be again this weekend.
