Community Clubs from across North Yorkshire and surrounding areas are invited to join us on Sunday 17th August for our Annual Community Club Festival of Rugby League at the York St John Sport Park, Haxby Road, York!
Last year’s event featured teams including York Acorn, Heworth RLFC, New Earswick All Blacks, and Raiders Rugby League.
The event was a celebration of local activity and showcased the talent on display with more than 150 junior players proudly representing their community clubs in what has become a highlight of our junior rugby league calendar.
Played on the training pitches used by both York Knights and York Valkyrie, this year's festival will allow for full-contact Rugby League tournaments starting in the morning before the York RLFC Knights versus London Broncos game takes place on the same day at the LNER Community Stadium, (3pm).
The festival is being organised and managed by York RLFC Foundation Community Coach Mark Prangnell, who continues to lead on the Community Club programmes. These programmes have become important in developing Rugby League in York and North Yorkshire and we’re aiming to build on last year and provide a positive experience for hundreds of young rugby league players during their summer break.
Alongside these programmes, the Foundation runs regular sessions for Primary and Secondary school teachers to support their knowledge and understanding around rugby league. The Foundation also works with clubs to help their player recruitment and supports local community clubs with various initiatives throughout the year.
Mark said: “Last year’s event showed the spirit of local community clubs coming together all in one venue, and hopefully it was an inspiring experience for all the children to play at the training ground.
"A big thanks to all the community clubs who joined us, as well as York St John University for their continued support, with events such as these creating a lasting impact on the lives of hundreds of young players in our region.”
The York RLFC Foundation Community Club scheme builds on engaging the community clubs of York and North Yorkshire, empowering them to create community cohesion for the betterment of Rugby League.
