York RLFC is hosting the annual Education Day, when York Knights face Featherstone Rovers at the LNER Community Stadium on Sunday (3pm)!

This event celebrates the many schools, colleges, and universities that collaborate with York RLFC and the York RLFC Foundation. The day will feature a pre-match Primary Rugby League Festival with more than 100 school children expected to take part, and the unveiling of a special warm-up shirt.

The shirt has been designed by Robert Wilkinson Primary Academy pupil, Elise, whose design was selected from hundreds of entries sent in through schools and community clubs across York.

A limited number of Education Day Warm-Up Shirts will be available for purchase from the York RLFC Club Shop from 11:30am on Sunday, with the Shirts priced at £32 for Adults and £28 for Juniors.

Subject to stock availability, the Education Day Warm-Up Shirts will be able to purchase online from 6pm on Sunday evening.

The Education Day Warm-Up Shirt proudly displays the logos of our Club Partners, Burflex, Autohorn, GEM Construction, Inglis Chartered Accountants, SkyBridge Tactical, Menfulness, Partners City Cruises, and kit manufacturers O’Neills.

York Knights stars Jesse Dee and Toa Mata'afa revealed the competition winner in front of her school-mates last week, rewarding Elise with tickets to the York Knights v Featherstone Rovers match, where she will be presented with her Warm-Up Shirt alongside her family.

The Primary Rugby League Festival at the LNER Community Stadium takes place between 1pm and 2pm on the 3g pitches in front of the stadium.

Pupils from Knavesmire Primary School, St Oswald’s Church of England Primary Academy, Robert Wilkinson Primary Academy School and St Wilfrid’s Primary School will be involved in pre-match and half time activity. After taking part in pr e-match activities including staging the guard of honour, carrying the York Knights flags and walking onto the field as player mascots, the pupils will return to the LNER Community Stadium field at half time for a series of small-sided matches .

York RLFC Foundation Delivery Manager Adam Prentis said: “We hope that the afternoon is memorable for all of the children in attendance, many of whom will have never attended a rugby league match before.

“Supporting our local schools and education partners is a vital part of the Foundation's work.

“The Foundation engages thousands of children and young people every year, introducing children to the sport of rugby league and promoting a healthy lifestyle through sport.

“As part of a positive introduction to the sport we are pleased to offer this playing opportunity and watching the Knights in the title race”

“We hope that Education Day can be a vehicle to support the continued growth of our local community game and to develop the next York Knights and York Valkyrie stars.”
