York Valkyrie will be hoping to seal top spot in the Betfred Women's Challenge Cup Group One when they host Featherstone Rovers at the York St John University Sports Park on Saturday (1pm).
York kicked off their 2024 season with a 74-10 thrashing of Sheffield Eagles at the Olympic Legacy Park last month, scoring 13 tries en route to a comfortable victory.
Savannah Andrade stole the show with a hat-trick while Kelsey Gentles, Eboni Partington and Tara Jane Stanley registered doubles, the latter also recording 11 goals. Eva Izumi, Alex Stimpson, Rhiannion Marshall and Jas Bell were the other try-scorers that afternoon.
The Valkyrie face a step up in opposition this weekend however, taking on fellow Betfred Women's Super League outfit Featherstone.
Fev topped the BWSL Group Two in 2023 to earn automatic promotion to the top-flight, pipping Barrow Raiders to top-spot by just five points on points difference after eight wins from 10 league matches.
While both sides have already qualified for the Quarter-Finals of the Betfred Women's Challenge Cup, there is plenty of incentive on the line with top-spot in Group One and thus a home tie in the final eight up for grabs on Sunday 14th April.
The Valkyrie make their return to York this weekend for the first time since becoming Betfred Women's Super League champions in October.
Lindsay Anfield's side toppled defending champions Leeds Rhinos in a rematch of the 2022 BWSL Grand Final 16-6 at the LNER Community Stadium thanks to Tamzin Renouf, Tara Jane Stanley and Lacey Owen tries.
This weekend could also see a handful of new off-season additions make their home debuts. England international winger Partington, who made the move from St Helens to North Yorkshire ahead of 2024, will be hoping to add to the two tries to bagged against Sheffield on home soil while half-back Lucy Eastwood and Manuqalo Komaitai could also feature for the first time donning Valkyrie colours in York.
York Valkyrie return to home soil for the first time since October's Betfred Women's Super League Grand Final triumph on Saturday (1pm) against Featherstone Rovers in the Betfred Women's Challenge Cup at the York St John University Sports Park. Tickets are FREE for Adults, Concessions and Under-16s with donations to support the running of York Valkyrie Under-19s gratefully accepted upon entry.
