York Valkyrie can move 80 minutes from a maiden appearance at Wembley Stadium with victory over Featherstone Rovers in the Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup Quarter-Finals on Sunday afternoon (12pm).

York topped Group One of the Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup after two convincing victories in the Group Stages of the competition, thrashing Sheffield Eagles 74-10 at the Olympic Legacy Park before easing past Featherstone 80-6 at the York St John University Sports Park.

Taking the lead inside the opening minute through Tamzin Renouf, the Valkyrie’s scoring was relentless, crossing for a total of 15 tries.

Eboni Partington, Emma Kershaw, Tara Jane Stanley and Carrie Roberts all finished with braces while Alex Stimpson, Sade Rihari, Lucy Eastwood, Kelsey Gentles, Rhiannion Marshall and trialist Kira Fitzpatrick also went over the tryline.

Having beaten Sheffield 38-6, Featherstone finished second in Group One, thus earning an away Quarter-Final appearance against Lindsay Anfield’s side this afternoon.

York are the current holders of the Betfred Women’s Super League Grand Final and League Leaders’ Shield, with the Betfred Challenge Cup being the only piece of silverware yet to be claimed by the Valkyrie.

In Anfield’s first season, York reached their first and only Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup Final, beating Wakefield Trinity (10-16), Wigan Warriors (30-24) and Castleford Tigers (32-4) to reach the showpiece at the Leigh Sports Village.

That year’s Treble winners St Helens came out on top in Greater Manchester though, prevailing 34-6.

Two Semi-Final appearances have since followed, twice losing narrowly in the last four to Leeds Rhinos (28-26) and St Helens (17-16) in 2022 and 2023 respectively.
