York Valkyrie’s run of four home games continues with an encounter against newly promoted Featherstone Rovers in the Betfred Women’s Super League at the LNER Community Stadium on Sunday (12pm).

The Valkyrie returned to action last week after five weeks without a game, and ran out 44-0 winners against Barrow.

Emma Kershaw scored a hat-trick as the Valkyrie ran in eight tries for their third straight league win. It moves them up to third in the table, above Leeds Rhinos on points difference and just two points behind leaders Wigan with a game in hand.

Last weekend, Featherstone were beaten 50-0 by Wigan in their first game since mid-June. They’re still looking for their first league win of the season, following last year’s promotion to the top flight. Marie Colley’s side are bottom of the table, two points behind Barrow whose only win so far has come against Rovers.

While the two teams haven’t met in Super League yet they have played each other twice already in 2024, meeting in the group stages and the quarter final of the Betfred Challenge Cup. In both of those games York ran out easy winners, winning 80-6 in the first match, before a 70-0 win saw them progress to the semi-finals of the competition.

After two debutants for the Valkyrie last week, there could be a first appearance for new signing, Mahault Pommier. The 19-year old French International plays either half-back or hooker, and she could be in line for her debut today.

She featured three times for her national squad last year, kicking 18 goals on her France debut in a 116-0 rout of Serbia before earning another start in the 64-0 defeat to England.

Pommier will add more competition for places alongside the likes of Lucy Eastwood and Remi Wilton in the Valkyrie squad.

York will still be without long term absentees Tamzin Renouf (elbow), Kelsey Gentles (knee) and Ashleigh Hyde (knee). Lacey Owen will still be missing as she recovers from a knee problem.
